Moreno Square

Memory

Originally Plaza Moreno, the main square of Remedios de Escalada in the Municipality of Lanús, was made up of trays at different levels contained by masonry walls.

During a major intervention in 2012, the flooring was changed, the slope of the natural ravine in the terrain towards the railway station was modified and the masonry walls that held the soil from the upper tray were cut back. This intervention led to the appearance of “ruins” and containment areas that seemed unfinished.

Current features:

•Existence of a flexible and multi-functional upper dry square.

•Lack of understanding of the whole, congestion and lack of accessibility.

•Excess of objects and lack of visual quality.

•The access to the podium and a green lateral slope create a visual barrier that does not invite you to climb to the dry plaza above.

Characteristics of the intervention:

•Incorporation of balconies or cyclopean flowerbeds with distinctive trees to connect the lower level with the upper level and thus improve the functional relationship.

•Consolidation of an urban area in the upper dry square using trees.

•Improve accessibility by means of a ramped staircase.

•Incorporation of urban living spaces proposing a dry plaza/avenue integration.

•Incorporation of cutting-edge games and existing games.

•“Games in the forest”.

•Incorporation of a kennel, urban equipment and signage.
