Mothers' Cooperative May 27

Memory

The social project included the inclusion of 12 Bolivian families who had been living in the country for several decades.

The building is located in the Mataderos neighborhood, an industrial neighborhood with a cattle market and activities related to meat slaughter.

The lot of 8.70 mts. x 47 mts. consists of three levels built up to 9 mts. high in three blocks separated by patios.

The complex is structured around a longitudinal circulation along the site. The incorporation of three courtyards along this axis determines the existence of three constructed blocks.

Given the low height of the neighbouring buildings, a portico was incorporated that acts as a transition in scale between them and the building.

In the first courtyard, space has been left for the addition of an elevator. In the second courtyard, the staircase for access to the units has been incorporated, while the third courtyard (urban space) has been left for common use.

The first, second and third blocks on the ground floor contain apartments with living rooms with integrated kitchens and two bedrooms.

In the last block, two-room apartments are developed with lighting and ventilation to urban spaces.

On the first and second floors, the front units are taken from both dividing walls, achieving larger units than on the ground floor.

On the third floor, the back block unit has a mezzanine with the bedroom linked to the living space.

The low-rise patios, which open to the west, allow light from the north and west to bathe the living rooms and bedrooms of the apartments.

The colours chosen for the building's paintwork have been the subject of debate, with the final choice being blood red for the entrance portico (in allegory of the activities carried out in the neighbourhood) and colours typical of the Andean plateau and Aymara culture for its interiors.

On each new visit it is possible to find an unexpected color variation…
